The first book of the Operation Recovery Project, the one that inspired it.This is among the most impressive and terrifying horror I've ever read. Novels like this fall, by merit, into the books not-to-be-missed. Absolutely to be recovered.

Scott Smith has written only two novels "A Simple Plan", 1993 and "The Ruins", 2006; do not underestimate that "only", because the two novels in question have had extraordinary success.

immagine di rovine avvolte da radici di un grande alberoIt was a long time since I read a horror book of this magnitude.
Although I refer to a book, I do not hesitate to call it spectacular. And you experience this show within you, page after page.

The plot moves around one of my favorite topics: ordinary people facing extreme situations, including supernatural ones. A simple topic, but which requires great skill in creating the characters and deepening their psychology.

Action, reaction and survival instinct act in the protagonists against a ruthless unknown.
Fear becomes more and more intense as we proceed with the reading, the mystery becomes the protagonist and the anguish begins to grip the reader.

This is a novel that makes the difference and Smith has a narrative ability that can kidnap the reader and imprison him in the plot. It will make you live every single, terrifying moment.

"The Ruins" clings to you and won't let you go. When I think about it, there is still a shiver running down my spine and ... the desire to read it again, grows. There are few novels capable of transmitting such strong emotions.

I discovered it twelve years after its publication in Italy (2007), but it is the beautiful thing about books, they are immortal.
The power of the narrative, imbued with a frightening horror, fascinated me so much that it gave me the idea of the Operation Recovery Project. "The Ruins" made me realize that there are books that need to be read.
